Jurgen Klopp insists Liverpool will prioritise neither the Premier League nor Champions League as the season enter its crucial stage.

Liverpool are two points clear at the top of the Premier League with a game in hand, and have reached the last 16 of the Champions League.

February sees them play the first leg of their knockout tie against Bayern Munich, with a visit to Manchester United coming five days later.

March begins with a Merseyside derby and ends with a home game against Tottenham, with the second leg against Bayern falling in between.

But Klopp says that Liverpool will try their absolute darnedest domestically and in Europe.

Asked whether Liverpool will give both competitions the same amount of precedence, Klopp said: “We will try, for sure.

“That is what we tried last year. There was the discussion this year when people said we should focus only on the league so now we are still in the Champions League and I am quite happy about it,” he added, referencing, among many outside parties, the likes of Gary Neville.

“We have a very difficult game yet listening to some people it seems we are already through because ‘It’s only Bayern Munich’. Have you looked at the team they have or how they are in shape now after the winter break?

“We will be ready for the Champions League and a very, very tough game. This is the Champions League – one game and then two weeks before we play them again. We always play the league and the Champions League is then a little sweet in between and we will go for it with all we have. That is normal.”
