There is “no chance” that Paul Ince could have done the same job as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Manchester United, according to former Liverpool defender John Arne Riise.
Solskjaer has won nine of his first ten matches in charge at Old Trafford after becoming caretaker manager in the wake of Jose Mourinho’s sacking in December.
When asked whether he felt anyone could have taken over United and overseen such an upturn in results, Ince told BT Sport: “I believe they could, yes.”
He’s said this before, you know. It is just as ridiculous now.
“I think I could’ve gone in, at the time they needed someone to rest the ship I think I could’ve done that,” Ince added.
“Brucey [two Premier League relegations and sacked by Aston Villa] could’ve done it.
“Mark Hughes [first manager to be sacked by two Premier League clubs in a single calendar year] could’ve done it.
“You could’ve done it [pointing to Chris Sutton, he of 14 wins in 50 games at Lincoln City in literally his only ever managerial post].”
And Solskjaer’s compatriot Riise, who played for United’s arch-rivals Liverpool, has laughed off Ince’s claims.
Riise said on Twitter: “Paul Ince.. no chance he would have done the same and got the same results as Ole Gunnar. No chance!”
