Michael Owen was “not very impressed” by what he saw from Barcelona in their victory over Manchester United in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final.
Having last month recovered from a two-goal home defeat in stunning fashion at Paris Saint-Germain, the Red Devils head to Spain next Tuesday looking to overturn a 1-0 deficit.
Luke Shaw’s own goal from a Luis Suarez header was the difference at Old Trafford, where United failed to muster a shot on target but largely shackled Barca’s glut of attacking options.
However, Owen thinks United have “got a squeak” of a chance to progress to the semi-final after seeing how Barcelona performed.
“It was a strange game,” Owen told BT Sport.
“Going into the game I was thinking United have got to win and possibly win by a couple of goals and take it to the Nou Camp.
“But after watching that today, I actually don’t think they’re out of it. I was not very impressed with Barca.
“I thought Man United at least deserved a draw out of the game.
“In saying that they didn’t do too much to create so many chances, not many attempts, certainly not many on target.
“It was a disappointing game overall. It’s not in the balance but I still think they’ve got a squeak.”
