Paul Pogba has told his Manchester United team-mates that he will leave Old Trafford this summer, according to reports in France.
Pogba, who has just over two years remaining on his current deal, was one of Manchester United’s most-improved players under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the months after his interim appointment.
The Frenchman scored nine goals and assisted seven in his first 14 games under the Norwegian, but has only two goals – both penalties in the win over West Ham – and no assists since the start of last month.
Towards the end of Jose Mourinho’s reign at Old Trafford there were reports that he was desperate to get out with the Portuguese coach taking the vice-captaincy off him.
And following a number of lacklustre displays, he has again been linked with a summer move away to the likes of Spanish giants Real Madrid.
And now French newspaper L’Equipe claims that Pogba is looking to engineer a move to Real Madrid and that he has told some of his closest friends that he wants to leave for Spain.
United’s inability to compete for major silverware is understood to be a key reason behind his decision, while he would love to work with compatriot Zinedine Zidane in Madrid.
The report adds that United would not stand in Pogba’s way if a sufficient offer came in as they would prefer to sell him this summer than next, when his value could have diminished.
