The Scottish champions make the trip to Trondheim to face a familiar foe as they attempt to stay in with a chance of reaching the last 32

Celtic will hope to keep their chances of reaching the knockout stage of the Europa League alive when they take on Rosenborg in Norway on Thursday.

Brendan Rodgers’ side are third in Group B after four games, level with second-place RB Leipzig on six points.

Hosts Rosenborg will be buoyant coming into the game having secured the Norwegian league title and they will be keen to upset the Bhoys.

However, Celtic arguably boast the edge over their opponents after inflicting a 1-0 defeat on them in Glasgow back in September.

Celtic are riding the crest of a wave after coming through a difficult patch and they will be fully confident in their ability to secure a result against Rosenborg in Trondheim.

The Glasgow side have put together a six-match unbeaten run, a streak which includes a 2-1 win over Bundesliga side RB Leipzig, and they have returned to the summit of the Scottish Premiership as well.

Rodgers’ men also have a Scottish League Cup final against Aberdeen to look forward to this weekend and the Northern Irish coach is eager for his players to maintain their momentum.

“Every away fixture is big, but you could say that we want to take something from this game before going into our last game in the group, which is at home. For us, we want to get the victory,” the Bhoys boss told the Celtic View.

“I feel that will be important for us coming into our last game against Salzburg. We’ll give everything we can to win the game. The team coming on to these games are riding high on performance, confidence, goals and defensive solidity.”
