Rihanna’s Anti world tour has proven to be quite the emotional rollercoaster.
In June, the 28-year-old Barbadian singer choked up while performing a rendition of “Love the Way You Lie” in Dublin, Ireland. And while we’re unsure why the star was feeling blue then, she once again took a moment to pause from the chaos of a tour at her concert in Lyon, France, Tuesday night.
She paused her high-wattage concert and, in front of 35,000 fans, honored the victims of the recent attack in Nice by lighting the stage to resemble the nation’s red, white, and blue flag and sharing choice words. “Tonight is the night I wish I could have experienced with my fans in Nice,” she said, referring to her cancelation of the show in the city after the tragedy.
“This next song I wanted to dedicate to the people of Nice. To the people who’ve suffered, to the people who’ve been traumatized, and their families,” she said, moving on to sing her beloved slow-jam, “Diamonds.”
According to People, fans in the audience definitely appreciated the somber mood. “It was a very intense moment. The audience responded incredibly. There were lights everywhere, shouts and applause. People started singing ‘La Marseillaise’ [the French national anthem],” a concertgoer told the outlet.
Rihanna also took to Instagram to share an image of the unforgettable show.
