City after Havertz?

The Manchester Evening News believes that Manchester City are carrying a torch for Kai Havertz. Or, at least, they’re up early enough to notice that Bild think they are.

They describe him as a winger, which isn’t quite true. Havertz – who has also been linked with Liverpool and Manchester United andwill apparently be available for a measly €130million – can play off one of the flanks, but is more commonly seen at the central tip of Bayer Leverkusen’s midfield. Think of him more as a replacement for David Silva than a rival for Pep Guardiola’s wide forwards – if it even happens, because it’s been assumed for a long time that Havertz will be joining Bayern Munich at the end of the season.

Everyone wants to leave Arsenal

Miguel Delaney reports in The Independent that Mikel Arteta’s first job at Arsenal will be to convince Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang not to leave. In not wholly surprising news, it’s revealed that Aubameyang has become disillusioned with life at the club and, now 30, is not convinced by their future direction.

Alexandre Lacazette is believed to be thinking more or less the same and, in less threatening news, Granit Xhaka also wants out.

Zlatan to Goodison Park

The Mail claim that as and when Carlo Ancelotti is appointed as Everton’s new head-coach, which will be sooner rather than later and maybe even as early as today, Zlatan Ibrahimovic would be open to joining his former Paris Saint-Germain boss on Merseyside. The Swede is now 38 and has been out of contract since leaving LA Galaxy at the end of the MLS season, with a whole host of clubs politely declining the opportunity to throw their money at him.

Mino wants paying… again

The Sun reveal that the cost of signing Erling Braut Haaland, for Manchester United at least, would include an enormous agent fee to Mino Raiola. £12m is the price apparently and that’s enough to make anyone scorn FIFA for deregulating the agent market.

One other interesting detail: it’s thought that Salzburg would insist on any deal involving a loan back for the rest of the season. Makes sense, they do have a Europa League to compete for now, but that could prove off-putting to sides like United who very much much need to improve now.

And the rest…

Daniel Levy hopes that Mauricio Pochettino returns to Tottenham in the future… and also wants to sell White Hart Lane’s naming rights for £25m… Chelsea are interested in Real Madrid’s Brazilian forward Vinicius… Crystal Palace want to sign former Liverpool and Sunderland non-forward Fabio Borini.
