Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has hinted at possible first-team action for academy starlets Ki-Jana Hoever and Sepp van den Berg as injuries pile up at the back for the Reds.
Joel Matip is out with a knee injury and now Klopp has revealed that Dejan Lovren will be unavailable for an undetermined period of time with a muscular problem.
With Fabinho being out until the new year means Liverpool are very short of options in defence, and may have to rely on their academy products in a packed christmas schedule.
“He [Lovren] will be back before my contract ends! He is out with muscle. It is more serious than last time. We have problems.”
“Don’t have a timeframe, he’s out.
“Two fit CBs is a concern, not the first time we have this situation. Fabinho is out too. Not too cool.
“We have to take care in cotton wool and ask what they want in training. We have to be creative, we have Ki-Jana and Sepp. Different systems too and defensive midfielders.
