Freddie Ljungberg has revealed he told Mesut Ozil “that’s not how we behave at Arsenal” after he angrily kicked his gloves after being substituted against Manchester City.

The German World Cup winner picked up an injury following the 3-0 defeat, which ruled him out of Saturday’s bore draw with Everton.

But interim Arsenal manager Ljungberg, who took charge of his final game at Goodison Park before Mikel Arteta officially takes charge, said he wouldn’t have played Ozil even if he was fit, reports The Mirror.

Ljungberg said: “He [Ozil] walked off, took his things and kicked them. I said at Arsenal, that’s not how we behave.

“Mesut was injured but I would not have picked him for the squad because I want to make a stance that that’s not what I accept from an Arsenal football player.”

Ozil, 31, wasn’t even named in the squad on Saturday, with Ljungberg making a handful of changes to his starting XI.
