Kai Havertz has reportedly decided to stay at Bayer Leverkusen until the end of the season amid strong interest from Manchester United, and a host of other Premier League giants.

United were thought to be lining up a move for Havertz, with the 20-year-old reportedly Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s “number one target in January”.

Havertz has been directly involved in 43 goals (26 goals and 17 assists) since his Leverkusen debut and became the youngest player to make 100 Bundesliga appearances at the weekend.

Premier League giants Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham have also been keeping an eye on Havertz, but the German international looks set to snub any approaches until the summer at least.

The midfielder is committed to seeing out the season with Leverkusen as he is still “enjoying” his time at the BayArena, reports Sky Sports.

Havertz has received some criticism after a slight downturn in form in recent weeks and he admits he’s struggling to live up to the heights of last season.

“Last season was like a benchmark for me, so it’s been difficult to keep pace with this,’ he said.

“This was my aim, and I started this season well with two goals in the first two games.

“It’s normal for a young player like me to then experience a small dip, but these are phases that shape you as a player and as a person.

“You learn the most in these situations, and I think it was the first time in my career that praise wasn’t constantly being heaped on me.

“The things being written about me weren’t all positive, but things like that don’t hold me back and I’ll just try to prove myself again.”
