Meghwal not only had a flailing health but his old age also didn’t permit him to lead from Shahpur in Bhilwara district, Rajasthan where he defeated Congress candidate Mahaveer Prasad.

He won by a large margin of 74,542 votes. Times of India reported that at one time Meghwal had not even earned its people’s trust that would help him win another term. In 2013 he had won the election by a margin of 43,666 votes.
