Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola reportedly has a secret break clause in his contract that could see him leave at the end of the season.
The Spanish boss signed a new deal with City last year, extending his contract until 2021, which included a clause that means he could depart one year early should certain conditions be met, reports the Daily Mail.
There have been doubts raised over Guardiola’s long-term future at the Etihad this season, with City currently 14 points adrift of title rivals Liverpool.
The boss has shown signs of frustration in recent weeks after a run of poor results in the league and has criticised officuals and VAR throughout the campaign.
He also claimed recently that his City side are unable to compete with the best clubs in Europe, naming Manchester United among them.
Only last month the 48-year-old said he was open to signing a new deal with City.
“I’m open yes,” said the City boss when asked about a possible extension.
“It is not about what the club wants or not. For me, I want to see my players and the reaction of my players and everything.
“It is not as simple as I want to extend. I want to see the club, I want to see the players, I want to see how we are still working together.”
However, further claims suggest City are considering their options should the boss leave, with former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino said to be among the candidates to replace the Spaniard.
