Liverpool star Sadio Mane must leave the Reds to further his career, according to one of his former mentors.

Mane won the Champions League last season with Liverpool, who are now 14 points clear at the top of the Premier League.

But Mady Toure, who runs the Generation Foot academy from which Mane emerged as a youth, believes the African Player of the Year must leave Merseyside for Barcelona or Real Madrid in order to better his chance of winning more individual awards.

“The fact Sadio has won the African Ballon d’Or will spur him on to win the European one too,” Toure told the Guardian.

“That’s his objective. Sadio always told me he would become one of the best players in the world. He said that to me and now he is among them but he has to leave Liverpool now.

“It’s his last year and he has to leave Liverpool when it’s up to go to Barcelona or Real Madrid.”
