Head of football at Arsenal, Raul Sanllehi, will reportedly look to make Santi Cazorla’s dream of a return to the Emirates a reality.

The 35-year-old was a popular figure in his time with Arsenal, but had to deal with a number of long-term injuries that hampered his career.

He moved to Villarreal on a free transfer from the Emirates in 2017, and his sparkling form for the La Liga side has earned him a recall to the Spain national team.

But Arsenal indicated at last night’s fan forum that there is the possibility for Cazorla to return the Emirates at some point to complete his goodbyes to the fans.

The Gunners are exploring options to bring Cazorla back to the Emirates, though it remains unclear in what capacity that might be.

Sanllehi has a connection with Cazorla’s agent so a plan is due to be discussed at the end of the season once schedules for both Arsenal and Villarreal are clear.

Cazorla had admitted that the way in which he left Arsenal, without the opportunity to say a proper goodbye, remains a a regret.

“It’s a big sore spot that I don’t know if I can be rid of,” Cazorla told Marca.

“I hope I can play there for any team and thank them for the love they have always shown me and continue to show me.

“Last summer there was the option to play the Emirates Cup, but in the end, it didn’t happen, and it was a shame. I hope these doors open for me.”
