SILVER SPRING, MD — The Montgomery County Police Department has released the bodycam footage of the deadly shooting of Robert White in Silver Spring on June 11. Officer Anand Badgujar, the officer who killed White, was cleared of any wrongdoing, with authorities saying the shooting was justified.

Soon after 2 p.m. on Monday, June 11, Badgujar encountered White in the 9200 block of Three Oaks Drive and began investigating him as a suspicious person, police said. Evidence shows Badgujar attempted to speak to White, but he became combative and assaulted him. Badgujar then attempted to pepper spray White.

The video depicts the minutes-long incident from Badgujar’s perspective as he follows White around the neighborhood. Badgujar is heard saying over the radio that White had his hand in his pockets, and at one point he said, “this might be a suicide-by-cop type thing.”

White screams “do it!” several times, apparently telling Badgujar to shoot him. Badgujar replied saying “I don’t want to f—ing shoot you, bro.”

Throughout the incident, White acted aggressively toward Badgujar, charging him on several occasions and even grabbing or punching him once, but Badgujar didn’t shoot at that point.

Then, the video shows White charged Badgujar again, hitting him. Badgujar fired a shot and White screams once, and both men fall to the ground. White yells “do it again!” then charges Badgujar once again. It was during this scuffle that Badgujar fired several shots, killing White.

The Howard County State’s Attorney, who investigated the shooting, found Badgujar was justified in killing White.
