With all the missing players back in the main roster, the Russian Cup holder and Pool B favourite Lokomotiv Novosibirsk won its second game in the Champions League.

Enjoying the rebirth of his volleyball life, Marcus Nilsson led the Siberian “railmen” with 21 points. The Slovakian international Lukas Divis helped for the 3-1 win with 18 points and an impressive attack percentage (63%).

The unbeaten prior to this game team of Berlin had their chances in the opening set, but failed to close it in their favour (24-26). From then on it was harder to match the home side. Despite the great start in the Bundesliga and the decent distribution of the American setter Kawika Shoji (all his attackers finished with double-digit scores), Berlin Recycling Volleys did not win more than a consolation set in Novosibirsk and lost for the first time this season.

It was a special evening in Ceske Budejovice when the local team brushed aside Budvanska Rivijera for its first Champions League home win in five years. The Czechs started the game well and took a comfortable lead before Vojin Cacic went to the service line. Budva sensationally turned the set around and even had a set point. The Montenegrin champions, however, did not meet up the expectations and dropped their advantage. This turnover gave additional strength to Jihostroj, which resulted in an easy 3-0 win.

The defeat has been heavily accepted by the Budva Management Board. The two consecutive disappointments in the Champions League affected the directors who threatened the players with eventual sanctions and salary decreases. Next weeks will show whether the money spent on new signings has been worthwhile.
