Cedar Rapids, Iowa — Minnesota State’s George Farmah wrestled in the finals of the 133-pound weight class at the NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships Saturday evening.
Farmah entered the match as the No. 9 rated wrestler in the nation and was matched up against No. 2 rated Josh Walker from Upper Iowa.
The first period between Farmah and Walker ended scoreless with each wrestler searching space for a takedown attempt but not finding any. Farmah started the second period in top position and relinquished the first point of the match to a Walker escape. Trailing 1-0, Farmah had a shot attempt and scoring opportunity stalemated late in the period to reset both wrestlers and keep the advantage at a single point. The St. Paul, Minn. native chose to start the third period neutral, looking to score the decisive points to win a national title. Farmah pushed Walker to the final whistle but could not secure the go-ahead takedown.
With the second-place finish at the 2018 Wrestling Championships Farmah became a Division II All-American for the first time. The junior had previously earned All-American status at the NJCAA level while wrestling at Iowa Lakes Community College. Farmah concluded his junior year with a 13-7 record, was 7-3 in dual matches and finished the season on an 8-2 run through the regional and national tournaments.

Minnesota State finished the year with three All-Americans with Zach Johnston and Seth Elwood placing seventh at 174-pounds and eighth at 165-pounds respectively, tying their total from the 2016-17 season.
The Mavericks finished 10th out of 52 teams with 30.5 total team points at the Wrestling Championships.
