It has become a tradition this time of year for New Japan Pro Wrestling to start setting up the challengers for their titles, all in anticipation for the January 4th show at the Tokyo Dome known as WrestleKingdom.
The main event has been made for the show with Tetsuya Naito winning the G1 tournament and thus becoming the number 1 contender to the IWGP title currently held by Kazuchika Okada. The first press conference for the event seemed to seal the deal for that match. So what about the other titles?
While the IWGP Heavyweight Tag team title match will largely hinge on the results of the World Tag League tournament that starts in mid-November, we have the smaller Super Juniors Tag League Tournament up first. Unlike its bigger brother that brings in multiple teams in a round robin style tournament, the Super Juniors tag tournament is a single elimination style with 8 teams involved. The matches for the first round have been announced with:

Oct 23rd at Korakuen Hall:
Roppongi 3k (Chaos) vs. KUSHIDA & Hirai Kawato
Hiromu Takahashi & BUSHI (LIJ) vs. Titan & Dragon Lee
Oct 29 at Korakuen Hall:
Yoshinobu Kanemaru & El Desperado (Suzuki-gun) vs. Tiger Mask IV & Jushin Thunder Liger
Ryusuke Taguchi & ACH (Team Taguchi) vs. TAKA Michinoku & Taichi (Suzuki-gun)
The Semi-Finals take place on Oct 30. The finals take place at Power Struggle on November 5th.
The winners of the tournament usually get a shot at the titles on January 4th, but with the current champions Roppongi 3K in the tournament as well, things might change.
