Minnesota leads the Southern Scuffle field by half a point after the first day of competition.
MINNEAPOLIS – After the first day of competition at the Southern Scuffle, presented by Defense Soap and Flips Wrestling, the No. 2 University of Minnesota Golden Gopher wrestling team leads the open tournament with a team score of 53.5. The No. 2 Penn State NittYouany Lions follow closely behind by half a point with 53 team points and No. 4 Oklahoma State sits in third place.
The Gophers have nine wrestlers who are undefeated and will continue on their quest for individual titles tomorrow including David Thorn (133), Chris Dardanes (141), Nick Dardanes (149), Dylan Ness (157), Logan Storley (174), Brett Pfarr (184), Kevin Steinhaus (184), Scott Schiller (197) and Tony Nelson (285).
Minnesota will also be represented tomorrow by Jordan Kingsley (125), Brandon Kingsley (157), Danny Zilverberg (165), Alec Ortiz (165) and Mike Kroells (285) who will all compete in the consulation brackets of their respective weight classes.
The competition will resume at 9:00 a.m. tomorrow with the Championship Quarterfinals and the fourth round of consolations.
