The #1 St. Cloud State University wrestling team (4-0, 1-0 NSIC) will return to the mats on Friday, Dec. 13 with a 7 p.m. match at NSIC rival Northern State University (3-0, 1-0 NSIC) in Aberdeen, S.D. The match will be contested in NSU’s Wachs Arena.

MATCH NEWS AND NOTES:
- SCSU brings a 4-0, 1-0 NSIC record into the match at NSU on Dec. 13. The Wolves enter NSIC action with a 3-0 record overall, recording dual wins over Saint John’s, Concordia College and NSIC foe MSU Moorhead. SCSU has already gained wins this season over Pitt-Johnstown, American International, Johnson-Wales and Southwest Minnesota State.
- SCSU was ranked #1 in the nation in the latest NWCA DII Coaches Poll. Individually, SCSU has eight wrestlers ranked in the national DII polls and it is led by Jake Barzowski with a #1 ranking at 157 pounds. Devin FitzPatrick (165) and James Pleski (149) are both ranked #2 in the nation followed by Kolton Eischens (174), Tyree Overton (184) and Garrett Vos (133), who are all ranked #3 in the nation. The group is completed by #7 ranked Garrett Aldrich at 141 pounds and #11 ranked Ezayah Oropeza at 285.
- Garrett Aldrich and Devin FitzPatrick both lead the Huskies with perfect 8-0 records this season.
- The St. Cloud State University wrestling team continued its season of success with a strong showing at the 2019 Buena Vista Open, which was held on Dec. 7 in Storm Lake, Iowa. The Huskies saw several athletes place in the open including first place finishes by Garrett Aldrich and Joey Bianchini at 141 pounds and Colby Njos at 165-pounds. James Pleski placed second at 149-pounds after losing a close tiebreaker match against Minnesota’s Jake Bergeland. At 184-pounds, Tyree Overton placed second after losing a 4-2 match against DI rival Parker Keckisen of Northern Iowa.
- On Jan. 5, SCSU will return from the holiday break with a home match in Halenbeck Hall against Western Colorado University. The match begins at 1:00 p.m. and you can purchase tickets at the gate. All SCSU students get in FREE to this match.
- SCSU posted a 42-7 win over Northern State in 2018-19.
- SCSU has won 13 consecutive dual matches vs. Northern State. The last time SCSU lost a match against Northern State was a 25-12 setback in 2005-06.
- SCSU has won NCAA DII championships in 2019, 2018, 2016 and 2015. The Huskies has won NSIC championships in 2019, 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015, 2014, 2013 and 2012. One of the nation’s premiere DII programs, St. Cloud State has also won NWCA DII National Dual titles in 2019, 2018, 2017, 2013 and 2012 along with NCAA DII Super Regional team titles in 2019, 2018, 2017, 2013, 2012 and 2011.
- SCSU has now won 52 consecutive dual matches and is just two wins away from tying the team’s current record (also an NCAA DII record) of 54 consecutive dual wins from Jan. 30, 2011 to Jan. 12, 2014. SCSU’s last dual loss was against Indianapolis on Jan. 14, 2017. On the topic of streaks, SCSU has not lost a conference match since Jan. 27, 2001 against Augustana and the Huskies have not lost a home dual match since Feb. 14, 2010 against Upper Iowa.
