If there was some good news in the ratings, last night’s Raw was up from the prior two weeks. The show averaged 2.37 million viewers, which would still be the third-lowest number of the modern era.

With the combination of the NFL, where a New Orleans Saints blowout over the Washington Redskins did 10.51 million viewers (a 20 percent drop from last week), and a Yankees vs. Red Sox baseball playoff game that did 4.41 million viewers, a record low could have been set.

Most likely the bump that comes after a pay-per-view led to the three percent increase in viewers, combined with pushing The Shield vs. Drew McIntyre, Braun Strowman & Dolph Ziggler’s rematch, Ronda Rousey teaming with the Bellas, and appearances of Shawn Michaels, Triple H, and Trish Stratus being advertised, along with unadvertised returns of Kurt Angle and Lita.

Raw was in 11th place for the night, much lower than usual, but better than the 16th place of last week. It still beat everyone on cable aside from the football and baseball related programming and the usual highly-rated news shows.

The show followed a similar pattern as last week, with very slight increases in hours one and two. But the retention in the third hour was much better than last week, perhaps because the football game was a blowout and perhaps because of a stronger main event.

The three hours were:

8 p.m. 2.53 million viewers
9 p.m. 2.39 million viewers
10 p.m. 2.20 million viewers
