After his undesirable run in Total Nonstop Action Wrestling last year, Billy Corgan is apparently back in the business of professional wrestling. PWInsider.com is reporting that the Smashing Pumpkins singer has struck a deal to purchse the National Wrestling Alliance. Corgan has been a lifelong fan of pro wrestling, and has experience in the industry after founding Resistance Pro Wrestling, and after working creatively in TNA. Corgan appears to have bought the promotion in principle, but an official announcement could very well be coming soon.
NWA has a long history to its name, the promotion has been operational since 1948, and has been home to many wrestlers who are now recognized Hall of Famers. Corgan’s purchse will likely include the National Wrestling Alliance name, title belts, and all other associated trademarks. No word on what Billy Corgan plans on doing with his new wrestling promotion, but he could very well decide to run NWA as his own from now on. Time will tell what the future holds for the prestigious company, but Billy Corgan is now in charge of the fate of the impressive legacy of NWA.
As mentioned earlier, Billy Corgan has plenty of experience working in the wrestling industry, and has been waiting for the chance to run a promotion for years now. Last year, Corgan was attempting to step in and buy TNA from Panda Energy, but eventually Anthem successfully purchased the company instead. He funded many TV tapings when TNA didn’t have enough money to air them, but in the end, he ended up suing TNA for late payments. Some of TNA’s own talents were vocally upset that Corgan was not named the new owner of the company. Now that Corgan is back in the business, however, he now has a chance to start over.
