Ames, Iowa – The #2 St. Cloud State University wrestling team kicked off its 2012-13 campaign with a stop at the Nichols Cyclone Open on Saturday, Nov. 10 in Ames, Iowa.

This open format tournament featured some of the nation’s top collegiate wrestlers and no team scores were kept at the Cyclone Open. The Huskies brought home two individual titles from the tournament thanks to top performances by senior Shamus O’Grady at 184 pounds and redshirt freshman Clint Poster at 157 pounds.

A three-time All-American for the Huskies, O’Grady went 4-0 at 184-pounds on the day and nabbed the top spot with an 11-6 win over Jeffrey Koepke of the University of Illinois. Along the way to the title, O’Grady earned a technical fall and major decision.

At 157-pounds, Poster registered his first collegiate wins for the Huskies with a 5-0 record at the Open that included four pins on the day. He capped the bracket with a 6:52 pin over Edwin Cooper (unattached-Ellsworth) in the title bout.

At 125-pounds, SCSU’s Eric Forde placed fifth in the bracket with a 5-2 record on the day. He brought back fifth place honors with a 5-2 victory over Da’Wayne Robertson of Ellsworth.

At 141-pounds, Jay Hildreth was another SCSU placer with a fourth place finish on the day. He posted a 4-2 record and lost in the third place match by a 7-4 decision against Luke Goetti of host Iowa State.

SCSU’s Jack Barnes opened his season with a sixth place ending at 165-pounds. Barnes was 3-2 at Ames and finished the day with a 6-4 loss to Adam Acheson of Illinois in the bout for fifth place.

The Huskies’ final placewinner was Mic Berg, who captured sixth place at the Cyclone Open with a 3-3 record. Berg ended his tournament run with a close 6-4 decision loss to Blaize Cabell (unattached) in the bout for fifth place.

The Huskies will continue their 2012-13 season with a trip to the Finn Grinaker Open in Moorhead, Minn. on Nov. 17.
