Deadline.com is reporting that WWE Studios, which currently produces movies, will be expanding to include television and digital content production. As noted in the past, WWE Studios has teamed up with The Rock’s Seven Bucks Productions to produce the forthcoming “Fighting with My Family” biopic on the life of WWE star Paige and her family.
The Deadline report adds WWE Studios is looking to work with partners on scripted and reality show projects, in addition to family and animated television and digital content.
As of now, WWE Studios is producing a Bill Simmons HBO documentary on the life of Andre the Giant, and has sizzle reels in the can for future reality projects, which we have noted in the past might feature names like The Miz and Maryse Mizanin. That show is tentatively being titled “The It Couple”, and would focus on the couple’s in-ring exploits as well as their personal lives and adventures as a married couple in Hollywood.
Another project being discussed appears to be an updated version of “Tough Enough”, which would combine elements of the old WWE Diva Search contest. The concept would “seek out” a new female WWE star, and the series would place its competitors on the road with WWE as they all travel together via a tour bus. The winner would end up winning a WWE contract, similar to the way “Tough Enough” and The Diva Search worked.
The Deadline article obtained the following comment on the Studio’s expansion from Vince McMahon, prior to an official press release from WWE:
“Given the size of our fan base and their appetite for WWE programming well beyond our core in-ring shows, this is the ideal time to further establish the WWE brand with new genres across platforms. WWE Studios is open for business with this new TV and digital initiative.”
Michael Luisi, the President of WWE Studios, had the following to say on the new endeavor:

“Our new expanded focus on television and digital continues to push WWE Studios as a multi-platform production company, with the ability to create original content for global distribution as we have successfully done for the big screen. We look forward to identifying key partners to work alongside us while creating opportunities to use our on-screen WWE talent in new and exciting ways.”
