Jim Ross Comments On His Rumored Involvement With AEW; Discusses Relationship With Tony Khan
On the most recent edition of the Ross Report, Ross once again addressed the rumors that he is involved with AEW.
“My name’s been bandied around because my #WWE contract ends in March. So what? I don’t know what I’m going to do. I’m not really concerned about it,” said Ross. “I’m more concerned about celebrating my 67th birthday this week. I don’t know what the future holds. It’s not something I worry about. Many aspects of that are things I cannot control. I’m not going to invest a lot of time in drama and put my skin in the game in something I can’t control or influence.”
Ross previously called reports of his involvement with AEW “eye-rolling.” He is under contract with WWE until the end of March
Earlier in the podcast, Ross discussed his relationship with Tony Khan, the President of AEW.
“I met him before this idea was ever hatched. He came to the weekend where NJPW had the double-header in Long Beach. We met, hung out, had a few beers and talked wrestling. That’s my relationship with Tony. I saw him at All In, passed him in the hallway.”
Ross went on to say that he didn’t believe AEW would be able to take the top spot in wrestling from WWE, but that doesn’t mean the company should be looked at as a failure.
He then discussed the Jan. 8 AEW rally in Jacksonville, where more details about AEW will be revealed. Ross believes that the company will likely announce their television deal at the rally.
“I don’t think they would roll out all this information without having everything almost in place. To me, that means, they are very close — if not a handshake — have television in hand. To maximize this investment, it’s gotta be on weekly. And it’s gotta be primetime weekly.”
