L’Équipe report this evening that Lionel Messi remains a doubt for Sunday evening’s Classique fixture between Paris Saint-Germain and Marseille, having already missed the team’s last two games with a calf issue.

The Argentine picked up the injury at the end of last week’s 1-1 draw against Benfica in Lisbon, in which he scored the opening goal for the visitors. He then missed the trip to Reims before being left out of the return match against the Portuguese side as a precaution.

The forward has told his entourage that he does not intend to take any risks, although if his status shows good signs in the next two days, he will be brought back into the squad.

Meanwhile, Kylian Mbappé’s ankle issue suffered on Tuesday night is not a cause for concern, while Renato Sanches has returned to individual training but is not expected to be fit enough for Sunday. Sergio Ramos’ suspension should mean Nordi Mukiele gets a start as the right-sided centre-back.
