As reported by L’Équipe, Marseille have drawn up a contract termination package for Spanish defender Alvaro Gonzalez but it could cost the club €5m to get the player to leave.

Despite the Marseille squad returning to pre-season training in the coming days, centre-back Gonzalez will not be joining up with his teammates. Holidaying in his native Spain this summer, the 32-year-old has no plans to return to the OM training ground despite his deal at the club running to 2024.
Relations between the player and the club have reached an impasse after coach Jorge Sampaoli left the defender on the fringes of the squad last season. President Pablo Longoria is hoping to sell the player this summer but interest, which had been forthcoming at one point, is now only lukewarm despite various Spanish clubs remaining on the scene.
The alternative, terminating Gonzalez’s deal, would cost OM around €5m say the sports daily due to unpaid wages (after the player agreed to lower his salary temporarily to aid Amine Harit’s signing) and the two years left to run on the contract.
