As reported by L’Équipe, PSG will have a budget of €80m for the incoming sporting director, Luis Campos, to spend on transfers this coming summer window.
However, a large chunk of that budget is already likely to be accounted for via the signing of 19-year-old left-back Nuno Mendes from Sporting Lisbon after a successful season on loan. Mendes’ initial €40m option to buy has been negotiated down to €35m by PSG.
That would leave €45m to spend on players as it stands. However, that amount could increase significantly if the target of 10 player sales is met. High wages unable to be matched by other clubs and players enjoying the Parisian lifestyle has made it difficult for sales to be made, that will be the incoming director Antero Henrique’s task. Henrique returns after being Paris sporting director between 2017 and 2019.
Despite the relaxation of Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules, PSG are still working with a deficit of €200m to €300m despite generating a record revenue this season, say the sports daily. A change in manager could also cost the club up to €20m.
Selling players will be tricky, however, as likely sales Mauro Icardi, Danilo and Leandro Paredes have all already said they plan on staying this summer.
