L’Équipe report today that Sevilla have drawn up a shortlist of three Ligue 1 defenders as potential replacements for Aston Villa-bound Diego Carlos.
This includes Marseille’s Duje Ćaleta-Car, Lyon’s Jason Denayer, and Strasbourg’s Alexander Djiku.
The Croatian looks set to leave OM this summer, having been on the verge of a departure on numerous occasions in the previous transfer windows – the club notably turned down an offer from Liverpool in January of 2021. Discussions had already taken place with the Andalusians last year, and Ćaleta-Car now only has one year left on his contract.
For Djiku, his contract is also expiring in 12 months and he would like to experience playing abroad. The 27-year-old has been on Sevilla’s radar since his time at Caen three years ago, and Strasbourg would be willing to let go of the Ghana international for the right price.
Denayer would be the low-cost option given he is a free agent, but the Belgian has very high salary demands – this explains in part why he turned down Lyon’s extension offers, while his recent injury issues could also pose a risk. With Jules Koundé’s future to be decided in the coming days, Sevilla could be set to move quickly on one or more of these defenders.
