Speaking to Téléfoot Chaine, PSG Sporting Director Leonardo heavily criticised the LFP’s decision to elect Jérôme Brisard as the referee for last night’s Le Classique clash which his side lost 1-0 to Marseille.
“14 yellow cards and 5 red cards, that shows that the match was out of control. The first thing to say is that I am not going to defend indefensible behaviour. I do not understand it and the coach is right: to have Le Classique in the 3rd matchday is incomprehensible. Aside from all that, nobody is in their best form, at 100%. We have just been out of the Champions’ League, etc. Also, I do not understand why we did not have Turpin or Buquet for a match like this. Why? Why choose a referee who has only got one Europa League match under his belt and a Coupe de la Ligue final in two months? He does not have the experience for this type of match and this is not to criticise the referee. Yes, I am doing it… You have Turpin and Buquet, referees who we need in matches of this level.”
“Aside from that, we lost our heads, I cannot defend that. Aside from that, I know what happened on the pitch: the TV channel has the images, the audio and it will be judged and we have to pay attention. Of course Neymar told me what the Marseille players said to him but we have to wait for things to be reviewed. But my fear at the moment, is that there were 5 red cards, that they don’t know how to judge them and they start to hand crazy long suspensions to everyone. That would be bad as well. We need to know exactly what happened to judge it all, in a general way. Because we made it to the end of a match that was completely out of control. The referee sadly completely lost control.”
