Michel Platini has officially resigned from his functions at UEFA following the announcement today from the Court of Arbitration of Sport who have decided to reduce but not eradicate the former French international’s suspension from all football related activities to four years.

Platini remains resolute in his position that he is innocent and reacted to today’s CAS decision in the following manner:

“I take note of today’s decision from the Court of Arbitration for Sport but I see it is a deep injustice. This decision ensures that I am suspended and the duration coincidentally stops me from being present at the next elections for FIFA president. As pre-agreed with the national associations, I have quit my job as UEFA president, to continue my fight in the Swiss courts to clear my name. Life has always reserved great surprises for me, I am now open to them.”
