French manager Didier Deschamps gave an in-depth interview to our colleagues at Eurosport today, during which he discussed the tendency of certain French players to partake in media outbursts concerning their frustration at their non-selection for the French national team, notably Dimitri Payet.

Deschamps responded as follows:

“I take the principle that the players are free. I do not stop them from talking. They can have their media campaigns, like they had them before the World Cup… If I think that it is not good for the team, I will not pick the player. Everybody is capable to judge the ability of the player. For me, what interests me, is to also know the man and that he will do the team good.”
