The NXT Tag Team Championships have officially been vacated. The announcement came following the wild melee that took place on the May 15 edition of NXT.
The fireworks were sparked when The Viking Raiders came to the ring and informed NXT General Manager William Regal that they were relinquishing the tag team championships. The duo is now part of WWE’s main roster on Monday Night Raw, so it’s logical that the company would need to move on with the titles.
But this segment brought out The Street Profits, who wanted to win the titles from Erik and Ivar in the middle of the ring. Regal agreed and so the main event was set. The match had barely begun however when The Forgotten Sons crashed the party, followed by Oney Lorcan and Danny Birch.
So instead of booking a Four Corners Tag Team Match for the titles, WWE has instead held up the championships.
There has been no announcement concerning the fate of the NXT Tag Team Championships. But considering that NXT TakeOver: XXV is coming on June 1, it’s possible that new champions could be crowned that night.
