After The Shield kicked off this week’s episode of WWE RAW in Pittsburgh, issuing a farewell address to the fans, Seth Rollins took to the ring alone to address his upcoming match against Brock Lesnar for the Unviersal Championship.

Before the Kingslayer could get very far in calling out the Beast Incarnate, his advocate Paul Heyman interrupted for another one of his classic speeches. This speech, however, ended in a very surprising manner, as Smackdown Live star and veteran wrestler Shelton Benjamin made a surprise return to the red brand, attacking Rollins with a series of German suplexes on behalf of Brock Lesnar.

It was later revealed that Heyman had actually paid off Benjamin for the assault, but the so-called Gold Standard actually has some deep-seeded history with the Beast. The two go all the way back to their time in developmental, as they actually formed a tag team called the Minnesota Stretching Crew while in Ohio Valley Wrestling.

It would appear that the brand split that is supposed to keep the RAW and Smackdown Live brands separate is either dead, or pretty close to being dead. Benjamin is the just the latest star in a series of talents that have switched brands for no discernible reason, including Matt Hardy and Kevin Owens, who were on RAW before moving to the blue brand following injury.
