In case you missed it, All Elite Wrestling has officially announced a business relationship with AAA Lucha Libre that will benefit both promotions going forward. The decision was a surprising one for many fans, as AAA has an active relationship with Impact Wrestling and is the direct rival of CMLL, who has an active relationship with both New Japan Pro-Wrestling and Ring of Honor.

According to PWInsider.com, Impact Wrestling officials were made aware of the new partnership days before the announcement was made at Thursday’s AEW Double or Nothing rally in Las Vegas. They were essentially told that their own relationship will not be effected.

Impact has been working with AAA for years, and just recently taped several weeks worth of television in Mexico City featuring top lucha libre talents. Next week’s Impact Uncaged television special will actually feature a “World Cup” match between the two promotions.

If anything, this new paradigm in the wrestling business may open the door for Impact and AEW to share talent down the road.

“It’s a shame that [politics]exist and they have these age-old rivalries that never seem to be patched over,” said Kenny Omega, the newly announced co-Executive Vice President of All Elite Wrestling. “We’re sort of the place, I believe, that’s going to make that all go away. If people can’t leave behind their old rivalries and won’t play nice, you’re just going to get left behind. That’s just how it’s going to be.”
