Sunil Chhetri, the skipper of Bengaluru FC, is expected to undergo a scan later today to assess the damage sustained to him in a Federation Cup Group B bout versus Mohun Bagan in Cuttack, on Friday, 11th May. 

The focus of the tests will be to ascertain the damage done to his hamstring and the time period he will need to cool off.  He is expected to miss his side’s Federation Cup semifinal I-League champions Aizawl FC.

His participation in the Blues‘ Asian Football Confederation’s (AFC) Cup group tie has also been thrown into doubt when the one-time Federation Cup champions head to Kolkata to face off against Mohun Bagan. 

Beyond that, depending on the severity of his injury, the 32-year-old is also likely to be unavailable for some part of India’s training camp at the Andheri Sports Comlex, in Mumbai ahead of two important ties – against Lebanon and Kyrgyzstan. 

Chhetri has made 16 I-League appearances this term, scoring seven goals. He also scored in a memorable 1-0 win for India against Myanmar at the end of March.
