The knockout phase of the Europa League is just about to kick off, with teams such as Chelsea and Arsenal both vying for a place in the round of 16 which is set to take place in March.

Napoli, Inter and Valencia have all dropped down to the Europa League following their failure to progress past the Champions League group stage. Maurizio Sarri will be eager to make a push for winning the Europa League with his job in jeopardy following the disappointment of the 6-0 loss to Manchester City, and a piece of silverware could be enough to secure his post.

The draw for the round of 16 will be held on February 22 at 1pm CET (12pm GMT, 7am ET), following the conclusion of the round of 32 stage.


Europa League last 16 draw seeding & how it works


The likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Sevilla, Napoli and Inter will be fighting it out in the Europa League round of 16, and the full list of teams competing can be found here .

The round of 32 will take place from February 12-14 and conclude on February 20-21 .

In the knockout phase, teams play against each other across two legs on a home-and-away basis, up until the final. 

In the round of 16 , eight group winners are seeded, and the eight group runners-up are unseeded. The seeded teams are then drawn against the unseeded teams, with the seeded teams hosting the second leg.

Teams from the same group or the same association (e.g. the Premier League) may not be drawn against each other. In the draws for the quarter-finals and beyond, there are no seedings, and teams from the same group are allowed to be drawn against each other

& where will the Europa League final take place?


The final will be played on May 29, at the Olympic Stadium in Baku. This year will mark the first season where the Europa League final will be played in the same week as the Champions League final.

The winners of the Europa League will face off against the 2018-19 Champions League in the 2019 UEFA Super Cup, and will also qualify to enter the group stage of next year’s Champions League.

This year’s Europa League final will be the first held in Azerbaijan. The Olympic Stadium will also serve as one one of the host venues of Euro 2020.
