Le Parisien report that Lionel Messi is set to extend his PSG stay beyond the end of this current season with his initial two-year deal in Paris set to expire in June 2023.
Messi, say the outlet, has told the Paris hierarchy that he wants to stay with the club next season after talks during the World Cup progressed well and an agreement was reached with the player’s father, Jorge. Messi captained Argentina to their third World Cup title just a few days ago but that triumph is not linked to his decision to stay put for at least one more year.
Messi was not difficult to convince of the positives of an extended stay as he and his family have now settled nicely into Paris life. Messi is keen to stay at the top of the sport while winning more trophies, and PSG would allow him to do this. The 35-year-old is also now the favourite for an eighth Ballon d’Or title.

Links with Inter Miami and Barcelona are premature, say the outlet, with the La Liga club unable to afford Messi’s wages while the forward remains resentful towards the club’s management.
