Speaking after Marseille’s disappointing narrow defeat to Frankfurt in the second group game of the Champions League (0-1), Igor Tudor pointed to a general level of fatigue in his squad as well as injuries as a factor which hindered the home side from winning the game. The Croatian boss said the following, as transcribed by L’Équipe.

“We entered the match too slowly, as if we were impressed by this Champions League match at home. We were too slow in the build-up and we didn’t make the difference up front.”

“In the second half, we pushed and we deserved a goal. It didn’t happen and in the end we lost against a strong team. It was the third game in six days, there is obvious fatigue and many injuries. We ended up with only one defender and players who missed passes that they don’t usually miss.”

The opportunity for Marseille to reach the next round of the Champions League is still there, but the challenge will be more difficult following defeat to Frankfurt, following last week’s defeat away to Tottenham Hotspur (2-0) despite a positive showing.
