According to Fabrizio Romano, Rennes have made an official offer at around €10m for Brazilian centre-back Morato (21) who currently plays for Liga Portugal side Benfica. The deal is not considered easy by the French club, with a high price tag for the player- however Rennes will push again in the coming hours for Morato as doubts are arriving about a deal for Samuel Umtiti (28) due to the defender’s fitness levels.

Morato made 46 appearances in Portugal’s second tier for Benfica’s B team, scoring four goals and creating one assist from a centre-back position. The Brazilian also played 16 times in Benfica’s senior side in the Liga Portugal as well as appearing 5 times in the Champions League this year whilst also playing 10 matches in the UEFA youth league.

At Rennes, manager Bruno Genesio revealed doubts within the club regarding the potential signing of Samuel Umtiti (28) from Barcelona – where the defender’s physical state could slow a deal (he has missed over 600 days of football through injury and illness since September 2016).

A deal is also being worked on for South Korean centre-back Kim Min-Jae (25) with the club confident that they can bolster their defence after losing Nayef Aguerd (26) to West Ham United.
