It was a game to remember for Glasgow Warriors hooker Johnny Matthews on Saturday as he scored an impressive five tries in their Challenge Cup win over Dragons.
Matthews was the catalyst of the Warriors’ 73-33 victory at Scotstoun Stadium as the Scottish side booked their spot in the quarter-finals of the competition.
The 29-year-old hooker was in irrepressible form as he touched down four times in the opening 40 and returned for one more at the start of the second half.

Matthews, who was born in Liverpool, is no stranger to scoring tries as at Sedgley Park during the 2016/17 campaign, he went over 26 times in 29 appearances.
In fact, incredibly the Glasgow Warriors haul isn’t the first time he’s scored five times in a game, having done so for Tigers in 2016 in a clash with Luctonians.
But this performance for the Warriors at such an elite level is up there with the best individual showings from a player, as he profited at the back of the maul.

The line-out drive was where he opened his account on 14 minutes before he displayed impressive pace to finish off a break from Allan Dell eight minutes later.
Matthews found himself at the back of another maul on 26 minutes and had his fourth on 33 minutes, just after Dragons prop Aki Seiuli was issued a red card.
Glasgow went into the break leading 33-19 and the procession would continue after the turnaround, with Matthews over again three minutes into that period.

But that was the end of the hooker’s try-scoring exploits as head coach Franco Smith opted to replace him for George Turner with well over 30 minutes to play.
The Scotland international clearly wanted some of the glory for himself and Glasgow’s pack duly obliged, powering over with Turner at the tail for the score.
Glasgow will now ready themselves for this week’s Challenge Cup quarter-final with the Lions, whose pre-game analysis will no doubt centre on one key area.
