Springbok and Stormers’ loose forward Evan Roos has been slammed for his actions that resulted in a yellow card against Benetton in the United Rugby Championship (URC) on Friday.
Roos was sent to the sin bin in just his second game back from injury and his first start.
The incident occurred in the 25th minute of the match, with the Stormers forming a maul from a lineout inside the Benetton 22.
Benetton managed to stop the Stormers’ drive, with flanker Manuel Zuliani judged to have come through the middle to apply pressure on hooker JJ Kotze.
The Stormers front-rower managed to get the ball out for his side as Zuliani grappled him before Roos drove the flanker off his teammate.
However, in doing so, Roos also drove the flanker’s head into the turf. Zuliani remained on the floor after the incident, and play was stopped before referee Hollie Davidson was notified of the incident by her TMO.
So silly from Evan Roos. He needs to stamp this out of his game. pic.twitter.com/gv4Ur13em6

Upon review, Davidson judged that it was an ‘unnecessary’ action from Roos, adding that she did not feel it was a high level of danger before issuing the yellow card.

Commentator Matthew Pearce also noted that it was ‘completely unnecessary’ from Roos, and many on Twitter agreed.
“It’s a part of Evan Roos’ game that lets him down so often. That’s so unnecessary,” tweeted Philasande Sixaba.
While another added: “Evan Roos is turning into a very dirty player, don’t even know why he does this stuff smh”
“That was brain dead from Evan Roos,” Adrian Slabbert tweeted.
While another reaction read: “Evan Roos needs to stop letting Evan Roos down.”
“Stormers have been very poor so far. Libbok obviously short on confidence and now an idiotic yellow card for Roos. You’d still favour them to win but they are making this very hard on themselves,” Hugo Gordon wrote.

“Evan Roos’ discipline is gonna cost him,” another tweet said.
“Completely unncessary (sic) from Evan Roos, starting to garner quite the reputation for off the ball sillyness. A heck of a player no doubt but needs to sort himself out,” one onlooker noted.
In October last year, he was yellow-carded for a similar infringement during the Stormers’ clash with Edinburgh.
