The 18-year-old became the second-youngest Mexican to score in European competition with his Europa League during the week (Watch here) with a critical equalizer for Real Betis in a 3-3 draw with Rennes. His 90th-minute goal means the series is tied as it heads into this week’s second leg in Sevilla.
At 18 years and 250 days old, it puts him just behind Giovani dos Santos, who scored for Barcelona against Stuttgart when he was 18 years and 215 days old.

Lainez’s showing as a substitute Thursday earned him the starting nod for Quique Setien on Sunday, playing up top with Jese against Alaves. He saw yellow in the 73rd minute and was substituted out shortly after.
Andres Guardado started and went the full 90 minutes in midfield in both matches.
