Marseille have confirmed their decision to sack manager Michel with immediate effect.
The Spaniard had his fate a long time coming, but Marseille owner Margarita Louis Dreyfus has only decided now to sack the former Olympiakos man.
OM have had an awful season, seeing them just 6 points above the relegation zone with just four matches left to play before this campaign draws to a close.
Michel has not technically been fired as he has yet to agree a termination fee with Marseille. His contract as it currently stands runs until June 2017. As a result, he is indefinitely suspended until an agreement is reached.
Marseille have in the meantime decided to re-appoint first team coach Franck Passi as the club’s interim manager. Passi took on this role earlier this season when Marcelo Bielsa walked out on Marseille after the first match of the league campaign.
Passi will be joined by Basile Boli, who was previously fulfilling an ambassadorial role at Marseille and has been very open with his criticism of Michel in recent weeks.
As for rumours of a shuffle up at boardroom level, Marseille owner Louis Dreyfus has formally denied claims by L’Équipe this morning that she is set to replace President Vincent Labrune with an individual called Xavier Giocanti.

RTL claim that Michel was actually already indefinitely suspended yesterday, hence why he did not take training on Monday.
These dramatic events unravel just a day before Marseille’s crucial Coupe de France semi-final against Ligue 2 side Sochaux, in a competition that represents their only hope of producing some proud moments for the OM faithful in what has otherwise undoubtedly been Marseille’s worst season in the modern era, at least vis-a-vis the players that were available to them.
