Raphael Varane has pledged his future to Real Madrid after briefly fluttering his eyelashes at Manchester United.
French newspaper L’Equipe reported that Varane was considering leaving Real this summer, having ‘arrived at the end of a cycle’ in Spain.
It was claimed that he would cost between £85.5m and £119.7m, making him one of the most expensive players in history.
United were immediately linked with Virgil van Dijk’s favourite defender, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reportedly interested in reinforcing his defence.
But Varane has since changed his mind, pledging his allegiance to Zinedine Zidane’s band.
“I am going to remain next season as I’m sure that we’re going to respond in a strong manner,” Varane told MARCA.
“We fought and tried hard, but we can’t blame anything as it’s true that we missed that spark in difficult moments, and I haven’t been at my best level but we are going to see the best Varane again.
“We have to evolve and Zidane knows that.
“We have to re-build and change things as we look to restart a new cycle.”
