The former Liverpool captain guided his side to a stunning victory over his former manager at Anfield, Brendan Rodgers
Steven Gerrard secured his first Old Firm Derby win as Rangers manager on Saturday as his side recorded their first victory over Celtic in over six years.
The Gers won 1-0 in front of a fevered Ibrox crowd to move level on points with their first-placed rivals.
Ryan Jack’s 30th-minute deflected strike proved enough for Gerrard’s men, their first victory over Celtic since 2012.
In 2012, the Gers won 4-2 and 3-2 in two meetings with Celtic, though they were also beaten by their rivals twice as they eventually finished second in the SPL.
The season following, Rangers dropped into the Scottish Third Division after an investigation into a takeover attempt into the club.
Of course, in the years since they have risen back to the top-flight, with Gerrard now looking to bring trophies back to Ibrox.
Rangers’ latest win over Celtic broke a run of four consecutive home defeats to the Bhoys.
And it also ended a remarkable record for Brendan Rodgers; the former Liverpool manager had never previously tasted defeat in an Old Firm Derby, with his first loss coming in his 13th game in all competitions.
Under Gerrard, Rangers have won 12 and drawn six of their opening 21 league games, losing just three times.
They subsequently sit second, with the same amount of points as Celtic, but their fierce rivals do have a game in hand.
