Roy Keane doesn’t think Christian Eriksen would make Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side “better” while making a dig at Manchester United for buying Fred.

Real Madrid have remained firm favourites to sign Tottenham midfielder Eriksen, either in a cut-price deal in January or on a free next summer, despite reported interest from United, PSG and Juventus in the Dane.

Fred, meanwhile, was recruited in a £52million deal from Shakhtar Donetsk but has struggled to adapt to English football and his performances hit a new nadir in United’s recent 1-0 defeat at Newcastle earlier this month.

And when asked whether he would sign Eriksen if he was in Solskjaer’s shoes, Keane told Sky Sports: “Not if I was the manager of Manchester United.

“I think he [Eriksen] will get a move on a free, but I don’t think he’d improve those teams, and that’s the key for clubs like Man United trying to close that gap.

“He won’t make Manchester United better, but having said that Man United bought Fred.”
