Manchester United are reportedly set to make a move for £40million-rated Italian wonderkid Sandro Tonali, dubbed the next Andrea Pirlo.

Tonali, 19, already has a full international cap to his name after bursting onto the scene to secure promotion to Serie A with Brescia last season.

United have been following the youngster for the last 18 months and The Sun are now reporting they are ready to make a move.

Representatives watched Tonali again last week with his performances in Serie A this season convincing club bosses he is capable of playing in the Premier League.

But Tonali is one of the most in-demand youngsters in Europe, and the likes of Manchester City, Chelsea, PSG and Juventus are also said to be interested in his signature.

The playmaker has six goals in 61 professional games and made his full debut for Italu in the Euro 2020 qualifier against Liechtenstein earlier this month.

The move is ‘on brand’ with United’s youth focussed transfer policy and could be done with an eye on the long-term future of Paul Pogba.

Brescia president Massimo Cellino is reportedly desperate to keep hold of his prized asset and is preparing a new contract offer.

Cellino recently said: “All the big Italian clubs, and abroad Atletico Madrid, PSG and Manchester City.

“But in my view, he’d be better off remaining with Brescia. The other day, his agent and his parents were telling me about this €50m evaluation. I replied that for me he is worth €300m, which means I don’t want to sell.

“I have a dream. If Sandro accepts, I am ready to make a big financial sacrifice to extend his contract.

“It’s up to him to decide. He can stay here and enjoy his football, or go to a big club and risk being left on the bench.”
