Rio Ferdinand sensed a “nervousness” about Liverpool during their 1-1 draw with Leicester City on Wednesday night.

Sadio Mane scored the club’s fastest Premier League goal for almost three years after just 121 seconds but a lapse in concentration allowed Harry Maguire to equalise in first-half added time.

Maguire was lucky to escape with a yellow card for bringing down Mane as he threatened to race clear while Naby Keita was denied a penalty after a second-half challenge by Ricardo Pereira.

That means Liverpool extended their lead at the top of the Premier League to five points over Manchester City, who lost to Newcastle United on Tuesday night.

Jurgen Klopp’s men are still favourites for the title but Ferdinand thinks Liverpool need to try and settle their nerves.

“The only slight worry I would have is I sense a nervousness and a team sitting there passing the buck at times,” Ferdinand said on BT Sport.

“That is something [Jurgen] Klopp will have to address. You don’t want to see nerves at this stage, this is early.

“I think they looked nervous. The crowd were nervous and it fed into the players. I think Klopp will address that in the coming days.”
