Usually, it takes months for a government official to come and fix a hand pump in Madhya Pradesh’s Chhatarpur. However, a group of tribal women seem to fix the problem rather easily and quickly. And in villages where there is water scarcity and each drop is precious, these women come to their rescue.
These‘chachis’ travel to different parts of the state to help villagers in need. Dressed in colourful saris, their heads covered, the group of 15 can be seen carrying bags containing screws and fasteners, nuts and bolts and hammers.
